SONY – Inventory Control

Sony's Purpose is to "Fill the world with emotion, through the power of creativity and technology. As a creative entertainment company with a solid foundation of technology, Sony’s people-oriented businesses enrich lives by getting closer to people.

In recent years, stakeholders at Sony have grown increasingly aware of how crucial it is that companies fulfil their overall responsibilities throughout their supply chains, including procurement and production. They remain committed to ongoing efforts to raise awareness, educate, and provide training in order to focus the attention and boost the capacity of employees.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT – right across the team

As part of their commitment to their employees and stakeholders, they wanted to improve their inventory management in a short timescale, to better react to market changes and produce manuals of ‘best practice’ for operational and training purposes.

There were a wide variety of job roles were identified as requiring training: Purchasing Manager, Buyer, Senior Buyer, Supplier Development Manager, Account Management, Sourcing, Warehouse, Finance, Production and Planning functions.

This meant that they required a flexible and experienced trainer in order to cover this wide range of requirements.

WOW - Just ‘Had to go on the Course’

Several of Sony’s team had attended courses run by PMS in the past and recommended them as the preferred training provider.  An initial Effective Stock Control course was run for a carefully selected cross functional group. The outcomes gave such a ‘lightbulb’ moment that is was decided that everyone involved in inventory management and control should experience the course.

Outcomes and Testimonials

With such a successful series of stock control courses, Sony also engaged PMS to provide training in negotiations skills development and stores/warehouse management which were attended by another 16 staff.
